“New to You” – Kids and Community Sale
April 18, 2009 – 9 AM to 2 PM
On April 18th, the
Friends of the Plattekill Public Library conducted their second annual “New to
You” Kids and Community Sale at Classic Storage in Modena. The sale was a great
success on many levels thanks to so many in the Plattekill Community. This sale
would not have been possible without the sponsorship by Sandra Schuyler and her
family, owners of Classic Storage. Not only did she provide the place, storage
for donations, and hours of coordination and help, but she also enlisted the
help of her family and friends to make the sale possible. Her generosity and
her commitment to the Plattekill community are exceptional..
The Friends would also like to
publicly thank all of those who attended the sale, as well as the many
volunteers and additional sponsors, including the following: Don Dubois of Sign
Designs, Jimmy Hoppenstedt of Plattekill Corners Grocery Store, Jeff Sebesta of
J & A Flooring, Bob Earl of Enviro Clean, Lisa DeGroot of Kiddly Winks in
Wallkill, The Rotary Club of Southern Ulster, Christine and Lenny Adams of
Perfect Combination Painting, Rosalie Hasbrouck of Allied Locksmith, Heidi
Diponio of Tuthilltown Tots (Gardiner), Tina Dirago of T & T Auto Sales,
Debra Goldberg as Cupcake the Clown, Heather Mangione, LaRae Fasano, Kate
Ramauro, and Glenn Geher as our face
painters, Elizabeth Werlau, Tina Tenyk, Barbara Dawes and Wayne Harris from the
Town of Plattekill, Lisa Frank from the Southern Ulster Times, and Rob Betanzos
of the Plattekill Fire Department. Countless hours were spent sorting and
organizing donations, setting up and running the sale and the following
provided hours of help: Lynne and Jonathan Ridgeway, Christine Adams, Carol and
Brian VanDuser, Marion Borchert, Cindy Zajac, Kristen Doyle, Valerie Smith, Karen
Adamson, Maureen Kadaar, Emilie Rappleyea, Nancy Gilman, Amanda Maynard, and
the wonderful staff of the Plattekill Public Library.
We plan to conduct this sale on an
annual basis, so if you missed the sale, mark your calendar for the third
weekend in April next year! The proceeds from the sale stay in the Plattekill
Community by supporting Plattekill Public Library programs and events. Sixteen
free shopping passes were also given to families in need in Plattekill. Unsold
items were donated to the Skipper Initiative to help stop shaken baby syndrome,
to the Plattekill Head Start and the Plattekill Elementary School Nurse’s
office, and to the Salvation Army. Thank you Plattekill for being a part of
this great community event!
